This isn’t the first coffee we’ve featured from Buenos Aires—and it won’t be the last. The Valladarez family are among Nicaragua’s most respected processing specialists, known for their work across a wide range of cultivars and fermentation styles. At the centre of it all is Olman Valladarez, whose coffees have earned repeated recognition at the Cup of Excellence, including first- and second-place finishes in 2023.
Maracaturra is the pride of Finca Buenos Aires. A naturally occurring hybrid of Maragogype and Caturra, it’s prized for its large bean size, expressive character, and ability to carry bold flavour when handled well. For this lot, cherries were dried slowly with the fruit intact, intensifying sweetness and building depth. In the cup, it’s rich and generous—dark chocolate weight up front, followed by mango jam, stewed plum, and a lingering savoury sweetness that adds structure rather than noise.
